The Awakening of Mol Dano Announcement!


For the last week, I have begun work on my new project, "The Awakening of Mol Dano." 

Title is subject to change. Everything is subject to change! 

The next project in the course I am taking is a top down space shooter.  I decided to throw my own spin on it. With a bit (a ton) of inspiration from Studio Ghibli, and specifically Princess Mononoke, I begin the first steps.

So far, I am still working on gameplay mechanics. I know it will operate like a space down shooter, except you will be a character (a Shepherd), and you will be shooting arrows at possessed beasts.  Once they are weak enough, you can free them from possession.  If you are unable to do so. you may have to kill them to save the lives of villagers.

You will progress through levels on a map, moving around a massive crevasse created by a sudden split in the earth when the volcano Mol Dano suddenly became active.  As you move closer to the volcano, the beasts will become more frenzied and more dangerous.

Your tasks are many:

  1. Save the lives of villagers by freeing animals of their frenzy.
  2. Save the lives of as many animals as possible, for your job as Shepherd is to bridge the gap between animal and human.
  3. Find the cause of the animal's frenzy. Could it be related to the volcano Mol Dano?
  4. Save villagers from the destruction of the volcano by opening  a path for them to escape.

I am still very early in this whole process.  I would love to hear ideas or suggestions.  I can't wait to get started but this time, I want to really flush out the entire game before I get too much done in Unity.
